Russia–China trade over seven months: 159.2 billion dollars

Goods trade between Russia and China in January–July 2026 amounted to 159.2 billion US dollars — 26.3% more than in the same period last year. This was reported on 7 August by the Trade Representation of Russia in China, citing data from China’s General Administration of Customs.

What is happening

Russian exports to China rose 23.7%, to 86.4 billion dollars. Imports from China grew more — 29.5%, to 72.8 billion dollars. The pace is accelerating: for the first half of the year growth was 25.6% on a turnover of 134.18 billion dollars.

The key detail for logistics is that imports are growing faster than exports. It is the import leg that creates the main load on crossings, bonded warehouses and customs clearance.

What it means for the shipper

Land crossings take on a growing share of this flow, and Manzhouli — Zabaykalsk is the largest of them on the Russia–China border. A near one-third rise in import turnover with unchanged throughput means the bottleneck shifts from transport to clearance: the winner is the one whose documents are ready before the cargo reaches the border.
