Manzhouli — Zabaykalsk road crossing: cargo turnover up 59.3% over seven months
According to Manzhouli Customs, in January–July 2026 the value of export-import cargo that passed through the Manzhouli road crossing reached 90.67 billion yuan — 59.3% more than in the same period last year. Over seven months customs cleared 174,000 trucks.
What is happening
The road direction of the crossing is growing faster than rail. The Chinese side attributes the result to the “two states, six parties” mechanism — coordination between Manzhouli Customs, Russian control agencies and crossing services that synchronises vehicle movement and data exchange.
Russian statistics confirm the same trend. According to Chita Customs, in the first half of 2026, 145,700 trucks passed through the Zabaykalsk road crossing, with turnover exceeding 1.5 million tonnes, up 30.8% on the first half of 2025.
What it means for the shipper
A 30–60% increase in traffic with the same number of lanes means one thing: competition for slots is intensifying, and the autumn peak must be planned in advance. Shipments for November–December are worth booking now, not once the batch is ready. A delay at the application stage today costs more than the shipping itself.
